Surakarta City

Surakarta is a city in Central Java, Indonesia. It is also referred to as Solo or Sala. Surakarta is located 65 km north east of Yogyakarta and 100 km south east of Semarang.
In Indonesia, Surakarta has an area 44,03 km2, making it the Indonesia’s tenth biggest city after Yogyakarta. It divided 5 subdistricts and 51 administratif village. The population of Surakarta is predominantly Javanese.
Surakarta has a lot of historic places. There are Kasunanan Palace, Mangkunegaran Palace, Klewer Market, Vastenburg fortress, City Hall, Gedhe Harjonagoro Market, Loji Gandrung, and so on. It has also a lot of interest places and shopping centers, for example Solo Grand Mall, Solo Square, Solo Center Grocery, Matahari, and many more. Restaurants, hotels, and other public facilities can be found in all region.
Surakarta is a center for Javanese culture especially dance, music, and traditional ceremony such as gamelan music, keroncong music, puppets show, sekaten, 1 suro night, syawalan ceremony, etc. It is also a center of batik because it has biggest batik market in Indonesia, namely Klewer Market. And the more famous from Surakarta is local foods include Nasi Liwet, Nasi Timlo, Gudeg, Bakpia Balong, Intip, and Serabi.
